HASTI provides a one-day professional development opportunity for ALL practicing teachers and pre-service science teachers as well as the administration and instructional coaches that support them. We all know how hard it is to be a teacher and that having the right support network is extremely important to teacher retention. During this one-day event, Indiana teachers will lead workshop-style breakout sessions, introducing and sharing their classroom experiences and how they made it through their first five years of teaching. These workshops are focused on identifying the needs of new and pre-service teachers, sharing ideas and best practices, and, indeed, coming alongside our colleagues to build community, connection, and a network of support.

Indiana science teachers, administrations, and instructional coaches are invited to submit a proposal for the conference. Submit your program proposal for one of the following strands.

  • Pre-service teachers

    • Proposals in this strand will include ideas, management strategies, tips, and lessons that a pre-service educator can implement in their science classroom or elementary classroom to ensure that the teaching of science standards is being met.

  • STEM

    • This strand will encompass ideas, lessons, and classroom tested ideas that include two or more of the STEM domains and that could be easily replicated in other classrooms.

    • Science in Science of Reading

    • This strand will include proposals that help elementary and middle school teachers include science in Science of Reading lessons.  Proposals should show the connection between science and literacy and include children’s literature and hands-on science activities.

  • AI
  • Proposals in this strand will address the use of AI in the classroom.  Proposals can share innovative ways that AI is being used in the classroom, tips for use, the environmental impacts of AI use, and responsible use practices.
