The Distinguished Award for Innovative College Science Teaching is awarded annually by the Hoosier Association of Science Teachers, Inc. to an outstanding college science teacher who exhibits a passion for innovative science teaching.
Nominees must be full-time college science teachers in the state of Indiana.
HASTI AWARDS
HASTI recognizes outstanding Hoosier science educators who are innovators in their classrooms. All recipients will be recognized at the HASTI Annual State Conference at the Awards Banquet in February 2020.
Follow the directions below to ensure that applications are complete. All applications must be submitted by November 30, 2020
Components for Awards
Section 1 – Complete Part 1 of the on-line awards application registration process. Nomination Link
Submit the following sections using either Word Document or PDF to the Awards Manager (AwardsManager@hasti.org)
Section 2 -
Section 3 - Lesson/Unit Plan.
- The submission should be from an original or modified existing lesson or unit that the nominee has taught and that reflects his/her educational philosophy based on grade level Indiana Science Standards. The original or modified existing lesson or unit plan should be teacher generated and utilize effective science practices to meet the diversity of students in the nominee’s classroom
Section 3 – Educational Philosophy
Describe how the lesson/unit plan submitted reflects the nominee’s educational philosophy. Provide a reflection based on the nominee’s experience teaching the lesson/unit. The reflection should include both the successes and challenges you experienced with students. Additionally, you may wish to include how your educational philosophy impacts your current teaching assignment. Limit – 3-4 pages. Photographs may be included in this section. Please Note that pictures are limited to no more than 3 pictures.
Section 4 – Vita
This section incudes the nominee’s brief work history, honors or recognition received, or examples of leadership within profession, professional activities, and publications.
Section 5 - Photo
Include one photo of the nominee. This photo will be used for publicity should the nominee be selected as the awardee.
Section 6 – Two supporting letters from administrators, student or parent, and/or a peer teacher. One of these letters could be written by the nominator. Support letters are limited to one single spaced, typed page.
